Before becoming a central figure of the music scene in San Francisco, and the lead guitarist and vocalist of the Grateful Dead, Jerry Garcia attended the California School of Fine Arts. Using cartoon-like take-offs on disparate subjects like vampires, dragons and politicians, he created a distinctive style, and a visual universe of his own. With a few lines, and small patches of color, he was able to show funny and philosophical layers of his rich personality. Jerry Garcia died in 1995, leaving behind an unforgettable legacy of music and visual art.
