Michael Clarke
Michael Clarke of the rock band The Byrds had a natural predilection for the arts. His mother was a pianist and father an oil painter. “In between hotels, motels, clubs, theaters, restaurants, cabs, limos, planes, divorces, and lawsuits I like to paint. After all, it saves on psychiatrist’s bills and keeps me, for the most psrt, from curling up in a fetal position. I like to paint outside on the bay or by the ocean. The land and seascapes inspire me to be a part of nature, to be with the breeze, the overwhelming sky, the burning sun, the chain saws, leaf-blowers, and police sirens. I find that biting gnats, attack seagulls, and lightening enhance the environment. (Infinitely safer than touring, trust me.)

Enchanted Cove

In his art Michael Clarke was creating hideaways from the storms of life. This one is a perfect example of this approach.

Hillside Village

As he confessed in the beginning of 1992, Michael Clarke was trying to find in his art an idyllic refuge from the harshness of the real world. "Hillside Village" is a perfect example of this approach. This painting was exhibited in 1995 in the Dayton Art Institute.

Fields Aglow

A mysterious light radiates from the fields. Opaque watercolor on paper with artist's felt-tip pen signature.
